He passed away April 20, 2014, at almost 93 years old (June). He was born in Chester June 3, 1921, and lived there until heading off to university in 1938. For over 50 years he served the medical needs of the community from Chester to West Dover through house calls and in his Hub-bards office seven days a week. He said he had delivered almost 3000 babies during his time in practice. He is survived by his his loving part-ner, Lorraine Dominey; daughter, Sheila Hamblen (Gordon Gray); daughter-in-law, Caroline (Floyd) Cole; grandchildren, Patti Hamblen (Tony Nagle), Peter (Angela) Ham-blen, Debbie (Mark) Harnish, Donna (Glenn) Tucker, Thaila (Shawn) Sanford, Brad Cole; great-grandchil-dren, Justin, Jenna, Cory, Reanna, Asha and Javen. He was prede-ceased by his parents, Grover and Grace (Hawboldt) Cole; son, Gregory and brother, Frederick. In his youth he participated in many sports and became a champion tennis player earning his first trophy at 14 fol-lowed by several Provincial Cham-pionships. He attained his private Pilot's license and flew his own air-craft throughout the Maritimes. He was an avid ski-dooer and four-wheeler. He was also an ardent hun-ter and fisherman with salmon fly fishing being his favourite. Phil served his country during the Sec-ond World War from 1943-1946 in Halifax while he was earning his medical degree at Dalhousie. He re-tired as a Captain in the Canadian Army Medical Corps in 1946, and started his family medical practice first in New Ross then Queensland before settling in Hubbards in 1947. He will be missed by his and Lorraine's families as well as all his friends and patients. The family wishes to say many thanks to won-derful care providers in the VG Site, QEII, Palliative Care Unit 7A with a special thank you to nurses Mary, Martha, Marlese, Stacey and Lisa. We also offer many thanks to Dr. Jim Mclean of Hubbards, who, with his proximity to 'Doc' permitted him to spend his last weeks at home and receive many visits from his friends and family.
