  • Obituary: Robert Malcolm Langille passed away suddenly at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary, Alberta, on Monday, May 31, 2010, at the age of 86 years. Robert, more fondly known as Butch, was born on September 1, 1923 to Hilda and Lester Langille, the second of three sons. Butch grew up in Calgary for periods of time in foster homes, as Hilda was left alone until she met and married Ernest Hansell. Butch, Howard, and Jack became brothers to Ruth and Harry and later, to Betty and Billy. The family lived in Vulcan, Alberta. Butch joined the Canadian Armed Forces and served as an Aero Engine Mechanic during World War II. He returned to Vulcan and heard there were jobs in the Crowsnest Pass. Butch found employment in the Pass, driving truck for Coleman Collieries for many years. Butch met Frena (Coccioloni), and they were married in 1951 and enjoyed their life in the Crowsnest Pass -- as Butch said, "The greatest place on earth"! Butch and Frena moved to Vancouver Island for a year but missed family and friends. Upon their return to Coleman, he drove bus for Dickens until he retired in 1994. He contributed to the community over the years through the Masons, the Lions, the Coleman Legion, the CNP Health Care Centre as their bus driver, and as a member of the Crowsnest Citizens' Appeal panel. Butch spent his retirement years camping, fishing, gardening, and working for and enjoying, the Legion where he was not only a life member, but also a past president. Family and friends often enjoyed his generous offerings of filleted fish. Nothing gave Butch more pleasure than being surrounded by family and friends. He was a great host! He is survived by his beloved wife Frena; his son Randy (Irene) Langille; and his grandsons: Rob (Dana) Langille and Rick Langille (Ashley Makowecky) and numerous nieces and nephews. Robert is predeceased by his parents Hilda & Ernest Hansell and Lester Langille. A Memorial Service will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion #9 in Coleman on Friday, June 4, 2010, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Nicky Keyworth officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations and/or memberships in Robert's memory may be made to the "Coleman" Royal Canadian Legion #9 (Box 448, Coleman, AB T0K 0M0) or STARS (Alberta Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society, Southern Alberta, 1441 Aviation Park NE, Box 570, Calgary, AB T2E 8M7).
