Notes

  • Obituary: COLQUHOUN (Morgan), Violet Jeanette - 91, Shiretown Nursing Home Apartments, Pictou, formerly of Toney River, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 9, 2005, in the home. Born in Poplar Hill, she was a daughter of the late Martha Jeanette (Davidson) and Joseph Neil Morgan. For many years she was a faithful member of Melville Presbyterian Church, Caribou River where she was on the Board of Managers, taught and was superintendent of the Sunday school. She was a founding member of their Women's Missionary Society and Ladies Aid groups. When Melville Presbyterian Church closed, she became a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, Pictou, and an avid member of their Atlantic Mission Society, serving for many years as the president. Through the years she taught in the Sunday School and Boys Brigade. She was a member of the former CAMR and lovingly worked with handicapped young people. Her love of history and detail was seen in her work at the Burning Bush Museum. Violet took pleasure in indoor and outdoor gardening. She did wonderful projects in knitting and crocheting. Her ability to do crafts was shared with many. Before retirement she and her late husband ran a successful lumbering business. She is survived by her daughters, Elaine (Aubrey) MacLeod, Toney River; Kaye Henderson, Cranbrook, B.C., and Jacquie (Eric) Ross, Truro; five grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren; brother, Arthur Morgan, New Zealand; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John; son-in-law, David Henderson; sisters, Flora MacDougald, Christina Heughan, and Faye Ross. Violet made a positive impact on anyone she met. She was known for her acts of kindness, compassionate heart and giving nature, all of which have given treasured memories to her family. Violet loved to travel especially when it involved visits with her western grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by family and friends, especially special grandson Johnny, but we release her to a better place. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Presbyterian Church, Pictou, Rev. Iona MacLean officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only please. Donations in her memory may be made to the SPCA, The Activities Department of Shiretown Nursing home or a charity of your choice. Halifax Herald Halifax,NS January 11,2005
