  • Obituary: Carter, Byard Keith 87, Truro, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at home. He lived in Spryfield, Crowes Mills and most recently, Truro. Born March 6, 1926 in Brookfield, Colchester Co., NS, he was the son of the late Leo Samuel and Ethel Mae (Waller) Carter of Brookfield, NS. He was a veteran of WWII and later he would start a long career in public service, first as a draftsman and then as a technical engineer at HMC Dockyard in Halifax, for 35years until his retirement. He had a passion for reading, fly-fishing, gardening, carpentry, story-telling and was an avid NHL hockey fan. He is survived by his brother, Gerald (Joan), sons, James, Allan (Charlene); daughter, Susan (David) Stevenson; grand children, Kirsten, Leanne, Brendan, Wade, Michael and great-grandson, Jake; along with many much-loved nephews, nieces and grand-nephews and grand-nieces. He was predeceased by his wife, Johanna Ruth (Bates) Carter; son, John; sister, Barbara; brothers, Robert, Arthur, Wilfred "Whit" and Ronald. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, where a visitation and celebration of his life will be held Saturday, February 1, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. Donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.
