  • Obituary: Mr. Elias de Brabazon Arnaud, who acted as Canadian Trade Commissioner in Bristol for three years, died suddenly Sunday night. Mr. Arnaud was descended from an old Huguenot family noble descent, who came to this country as refugees. Born in London on October 20th. 1847. he was the son of Mr. Elias M. Arnaud. late Controller-General of H.M. Customs, London. He was. educated at Somerset College, Bath, a city in which his parents resided at the time their death, and they were buried there. He entered the Bank of British North America in London 1867. A year later he was transferred to the Montreal office of the Company, and subsequently he served in branches of most of the Canadian provinces. Ultimately he joined the Union Bank of Halifax, Nova Scotia (now the Royal Bank of Canada). The appointment he held in that concern he resigned in 1905 to enter the Canadian Civil Service, his first position being that of Trade Commissioner Chicago, U.S.A. The next year he was moved to St. John's to establish the office of Trade Commissioner in Newfoundland. There remained three years, when he came to Bristol in succession to Mr. W. A. Mackinnon. In 1870 he married Constance Walcot, eldest daughter of the late Mr. Charles Walcot, Indian Department, Ottawa, Ontario. He leaves nine children, five sons and four daughters, two of the latter being married to sons Sir James Winter, and live in Newfoundland.
