Sangster, 80 of 6009 Preston Haven, a Dallas violin maker, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Chapel, 7405 W. Northwest Highway. Burial will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park. A Dallas resident for 36 years, he died here Sunday. A native of Nova Scotia, Canada, and former resident of Niagara Falls, N.Y., Sangster began making violins when he was 14 years old. One, in 1949, a Harvard professor making electric tests allegedly found Sangster's instrument equal to a 1715 Spanish Stradivarius in all tones except one. In that tone it was found superior. In nationwide competition in 1941, his violin was rated fourth among 125 instruments entered. Sangster was a member of the Episcopal Church. Survivors: Wife, a son, T. M. Sangster of Rosston, Cooke County; a daughter Miss Winifred Sangster of Dallas; three brothers, Guy C, Sangster, William Sangster and Arthur G. Sangster of Nova Scotia, and two grandchildren.
