Notes

  • Obituary: Lois Blanche Lynds '96 93, Truro, formerly of Halifax, affectionately known to her family as Muzzie, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, July 18, 2017, at Ivey's Terrace Nursing Home, Trenton. Born in Truro, she was the youngest of twelve children to the late Joseph Harlan and Sadie Archibald (Stevenson) Biswanger. In earlier years, Lois worked at Lewis Hat Factory and then after marrying her husband, Carl, they operated the Texaco Service Station at the corner of Pictou Road and Main Street in Bible Hill and later the Irving station across the street. In 1966, the family moved to Halifax and operated Princess Lodge Esso on Bedford Highway until Carl's death in 1974. In 1976, she met her soul mate, Rick Webber, and for ten years they attended the dances in and around the legions in Halifax. They loved country music and often attended the Saturday night dances in Nine Mile River. Both loved to travel and made many trips to the New England states to visit her sister and nieces and nephews. Many summer days, Lois would pack a lunch and she and Rick would explore Nova Scotia, traveling to places most had never heard of. She and Rick also enjoyed playing cards and Lois enjoyed bowling and was a familiar face at the Seniors Walking Club in Halifax. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting; her grandchildren were the recipients of gorgeous sweater sets and crib blankets. Following Rick's death in 1986, Lois drove her friends around and took them with her on trips to PEI, Ontario and the United States. She loved the independence that driving gave her and she drove until age 91 when a fall and ill health forced her to hang up her keys. Lois is survived by her children, David (Elaine Collier), Enfield; Barbara (Dave Hamilton), Arnprior, Ontario; Mark (Lorraine Musolino), Trenton; grandchildren, Cathie, Karyn, Todd, Rob, Bethany, Deanne, Kenda, Erin; ten great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Murray Carl Lynds (1974); daughter, Carla (1988); soul mate, Rick Webber (1986); sisters, Marion, Maude, Alice Jean "Bun", Florence, Dorothy, Eula, Ruth, Mary; brothers, Lloyd, Max, Carl. Honouring Lois' wishes, a private family graveside service will be held in Fairview Lawn Cemetery, Halifax. If so desired, donations in her memory and to honour the memory of her daughter, Carla, may be made to Breast Cancer Research. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall '96 Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Lois' obituary on-line and selecting "Send A Condolence" at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
