On-line condolences at: www.smithsfuneralhome.com Born and raised in Parrsboro, Chris was the youngest son of George and Gertrude (Fraser) Brown. In 1952, dad joined the air force and served as Leading Air Crewman until 1955. Although he never saw active duty, he loved telling us kids "yarns" of the air battles and near misses he had while serv -ing. Returning to Parrsboro, he married his wife of 47 years the former Judith Phinney. Together dad and mom raised eight children. Tim (Vicki), Donald (Lynn), Robert, Leisa, Charles (Jackie), Carol (Hugh), Christopher (Melanie) and Gregory. Dad was a proud grandfather of seven and great grandfather of three. Dad held various jobs over his lifetime including Irving and the Town of Parrsboro but settled in at the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission in 1978 where he retired as store manager in 1995. After his retirement if dad wasn't at home you always knew you could find him at Partridge Island tending the herring nets or helping Alan and the boys with the fishing weir. He was always amazed by the different fish found in the net or the weir and had his picture in the paper with a shark a time or two. Dad was also a volunteer fireman for 23 years and retired from the position of Fire Chief in 1987. Recently dad was very proud to receive his 50 year member pin with the Royal Canadian Legion. In 2006, dad began his battle with lung cancer. Although he put up a good fight, the cancer took the upper hand and dad succumbed to his illness. Besides his wife and kids, dad is survived by his brother Floyd (Doris); sisters, Gwen Gertridge and Aleta Rea; many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Deloris "Bill". Cremation will take place at dad's request. Special thank you to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the South Cumberland Community Care Center, family, friends and the community. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Monday [June 2, 2008] in Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 3, at 2 p.m. in St. George's Anglican Church, Parrsboro. Burial in the church cemetery.
