  • Obituary: Saturday, August 13, 2005 The Halifax Herald Limited OSMOND, Reginald John "Rud" - 81, Starr Street, Springhill, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2005, at his residence. Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late Aubrey and Beatrice (Hopkins) Osmond. He was a Charter Member and Past President of the Springhill Lion's Club; Past President of The Springhill Minor Hockey Association; Charter Member of The Springhill Golf Club; a member of the Springhill Barbershoppers; The Hill Topper's Quartet; Eureka Lodge No. 15; IOOF and The Springhill Presbyterian Church. Rud was an avid horseman who raised, trained and raced standard bred horses in Truro, Halifax, Moncton and Charlottetown. He contributed his entire life to the musical culture of Springhill and the surrounding area. For many years, he organized, MC'd and performed as both comedian and vocalist at numerous concerts, minstrel shows and benefits. He was dedicated to local youth and volunteered in many community organizations and because of his dedication, a music and drama bursary in his honour will be established. He is survived by his wife, the former Marion P. Langille; sons, Kelly (Donna Gillis) Osmond, Amherst; Stephen (Michelle) Osmond, Springhill; daughter, Jackie (Sherman) Beal, Amherst; brothers, Donald (Jean) Osmond, British Columbia; sister, Marjorie Tabor, Chester; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren ; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Kathy Matthews and Wanda Smith. He was predeceased by son, Francis in infancy; brothers, Harold, Leonard, Edward, Gerald; sisters, Dorothy and Jessie. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. today, followed immediately at 2 p.m. by a memorial funeral service with Rev. Elizabeth Davies officiating, both held in A.H. Brown Funeral Home, Springhill. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Springhill Palliative Care Program, Red Cross Society, Victorian Order of Nurses (Amherst Branch) or a charity of choice would be appreciated.
