Born in Linden, Cumberland Co., she was a daughter of the late Russell L. and Mabel L. (Mitchell) Smith. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses Congregation, Oxford. Prior to retirement she assisted her husband fishing lobsters and worked with her husband in the lumbering industry. She also worked as a woods cook in the lumbering industry. She was employed for a time with C.A. Angus General Store, Port Howe and for a short time she was employed with Oxford Frozen Foods Ltd., Oxford. She was an avid quilter and was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to others. Surviving are her husband Cecil Allan Carter; sisters, Mrs. Hattie May Tomlinson, Linden, Cumberland Co.; Mrs. Phyllis Marie Furlong, Amherst; brothers, Mr. W. Albert Smith and wife Marion, Linden, Cumberland Co.; Mr. Chandler R. Smith and wife Paulette, Linden, Cumberland Co.; number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great great-nieces and great great-nephews. She was predeceased by sister, Viva Mabel Smith in childhood. Visitation will be this afternoon and evening, funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, both in Allen's Funeral Home, 60 Water St., Oxford, Mr. Ernest Wilkins officiating. Burial will take place in Rockley Cemetery. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
