  • Obituary: NEWTON DEWITT GREGG, 88, of Titusville, FL He graduated with a math degree from Southwestern University. After graduation, he went to Midshipman's school at the U.S. Naval Academy and served on the U.S.S. Memphis and the U.S.S. Okanogan during WWII. He remained in the Naval Reserve for 20 years and retired as a Lt. Commander. Newton earned undergraduate and master degrees in engineering from Southern Methodist University after the war, married Mary Thomas Gregg in 1951 and was a structural engineer with the Civil Corp. of Engineers designing hydroelectric powerhouses in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas later joining and retiring from NASA. He became an Assistant Professor of Engineering Technology at the University of Central Florida. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Mary; children, Paul and Gary; sister, Mary Lou Kelly; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on August 31, 2011 at Indian River City United Methodist Church in Titusville. Brevard Memorial Funeral Home is serving the family.
