  • Obituary: On Sunday, February 25, Mr. Stephen Rafuse passed away at his home in Parkdale. He had reached the age of seventy-one. He was born at North West in 1840, the youngest of eight brothers of whom only three now survive. At the age of fifteen he came with his parents to Parkdale, then called Foster Settlement. Here he afterward took up a farm on which he spent his remaining years. Mr.Rafuse was twice married, first to Elisabeth Barkhouse by whom he had seven children. Of these two only survive him. His second wife was Mary Cecelia Foster who survives him. Of this union were born six children, five of whom survive. Mr. Rafuse was a devoted member of the New Germany Baptist Church. He was baptized thirty-five years ago by the late Rev. W.E. Hall. He was a man of strong faith, upright character, and blameless life. He was a good citizen, a liberal in politics, and a friend to all. His fuenral was largely attended, and was conducted by his pastor, Rev. D.H. Simpson, who spoke from Rev. 14:18.
