  • Historical Information: Justice HANINGTON was born at Shediac, June 27th, 1835. He is the son of the late Hon. Daniel HANINGTON. Wm HANINGTON, grandfather of Justice Hanington, was a native of London, England and settled in Shediac in 1784, being the first English resident of the place; while the judge's maternal grandfather was the late William PETERS, M.P.P. of Queens Coi. After receiving a grammar and academic training at the schools of his native place and at Sackville, he entered the law office of the late Hon. Charles Fisher, concluding the course with (now Judge) Palmer ar Dorchester. He was called to the bar in 1861 and in 1881 was created a Queen's Counsel. He was clerk of the circuits and for the County Court of Westmorland from 1867 till 1870, when he resigned. In 1870 he was elected a member of the House of Assembly, holding the seat continuously, except for the period between 1874 and 1878, until his elevation to the bench in March last. He was made a member of the Executive Council in July 1878, and was premier from May 25th, 1882 till February 1883 when he and his colleagues resigned. The Daily Sun Saint John June 11,1892
