  • Obituary: MacKinnon, Muriel Emma, 86, Truro, passed away peacefully on Saturday September 29, 2007 at Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro with her loving family at her bedside. Born June 30, 1921 in Westlyville, NL, a mother at 12 years of age, moved to Sackville, NB. Mother started working as a child in Newfoundland laying out fish on drying racks. She continued to work at many different jobs until her late sixties when poor health forced her to retire. Mother worked hard at her jobs and at home to bring up her six children when times were hard. She was an excellent mother and grandmother who told her children every day that she loved them. Mother was known to be an excellent cook and homemaker. Muriel was a daughter of the late Samuel and Lucy Jane (Mullet) Wicks of Sackville, NB. She is survived by her daughter Anne (Fred) Blair, Hilden; sons, Nelson (Beverly), Harold (Gloria), Victor (Dorothy) and David, all of Truro, and William, Halifax; brother, Perley Wicks, Sackville, NB; grandchildren, Sherry, Jennifer, Nathan, Zackry MacKinnon, all of Truro, Jason MacKinnon, Stellarton, and Travis MacKinnon, Swan Hills, AB; great-grandchildren, Keegan, Riley, Alexander, and Avery, as well as by many nieces and nephews. Muriel was predeceased by her husband, John Henry MacKinnon, Truro; son, James MacKinnon, Sackville, NB; sisters, Annie Wicks, Sackville, NB, Florence Wicks Porter, Amherst; brother, William, Otisco Valley, NY. Muriel was a member of the United Church all of her life, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 26, Truro. Cremation as her wish has taken place. Visitation will be held this evening from 7-9 pm; a memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 2 pm with Rev. David MacNaughton presiding, all in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. Burial in Watson Cemetery, East Prince Street, Truro, alongside her husband John.
