  • Obituary: New Germany, November 9-1937 The death of Mrs. Leander deLong, 87, occurred at the home of her son, Maynard delong, Union Square, Barss Corner, Saturday, following an illness of two weeks. The deceased, formerly Miss Sarah Jane Durland, was born at Watford, daughter of the late Adam Durland and Deborah Young Durland. Daniel Durland, aged 82 years, Watford, a brother of the deceased, is the only remaining member of that family. Deacon Leander delong, husband of the deceased, died ten years ago. Surviving are five children, Lennie S. deLong and Amy, wife of William Crandall, Barss Corner; Maynard, Union Square; Rachel, wife of Stanley Wentzell, Maplewood; Maud, a daughter, at Dartmouth. A son, Herbert, died at the age of eleven. There are 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Herbert deLong, a grandson, student at Normal College, came home to attend the funeral. Another grandson, Gordon deLong, who is attending Bible College at North Carolina, recently visited his grandmother. The deceased was a Baptist in religion. Until two weeks ago, she was active at handiwork, of which she was adept, and took an interest in everything in connection with the home and community. The funeral service was held on Monday afternoon at the home of her son, Maynard deLong, with whom she rsided the past number of years. Rev. B.G. Smith was the officiating clergyman. Interment was made at Barss Corner Cemetery.
