  • Obituary: Pettis, Herbert N. - 95, of Parrsboro, Cumberland Co. passed away Sunday, March 14, 2010 at home. Born in Parrsboro, he was a son of the late Berton and Ella Mae (Forbes) Pettis. Herbert was a veteran of World War II, having received the Volunteer, Victory, King George and Defense medals; the 39-45 Star, Italy Star, France & Germany Star and the Holland Liberation Award. He worked in forestry and farming for many years. He is survived by his former wife, Betty (Bright) Pettis, Weymouth; daughters, Edwina, Parrsboro; Sherry (Jim MacKenzie); Joann (David MacKenzie), all of Norris Point, Newfoundland; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret; brothers, Ernest, Garth, Russell. Visitation 12-2 p.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2010 in Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro followed by funeral service at 2 p.m., Rev. Tory Byrne officiating. Burial in St. George's Anglican Cemetery, Parrsboro.
