  • Obituary: The community of New Germany and surrounding areas were saddened to hear of the passing of Joseph B. Hall at the V.G. Hospital on Tuesday, April 28, 1981. Although sick for a lengthy period of time, Joe never forgot his friends and neighbours and, if possible, would visit them between blood transfusions. Born at Petite Riviere, he was the son of the late Winnifred (Conrad) and Angus Hall but spent most of his life in New Germany. He was a faithful member of Epworth United Church, New Germany and at the time of his death served on the Board of Elders, Board of Trustees, and Board of Stewards. He was also a former member of the Volunteer Fire Department, New Germany. He was a veteran of World War II and served in England, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. Well-known as a skilled carpenter and builder, his memorials in the homes and building establishments which he built may be seen over the South Shore, the Annapolis Valley, Halifax County, and especially the New Germany area where he resided. He loved his garden and enjoyed sharing his vegetables with his neighbours and friends. He was always ready to answer a phone or house call from a young builder who needed information on a job they were doing. Surviving are his wife, the former Maude (Chute), Annapolis County; daughter, Louise (Mrs. Douglas Aikman), Meaford, Ontario; four sons, Carl, Prospect Bay; Rodney, Tantallon; Barry, Melbourne, Australia; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Harry, New Germany; Robert, Watford; and a step-mother, Mrs. Carolyn Hall, Vogler's Cove. He was predeceaased by four brothers, Max, Guy, Cecil, and Cyril. Bridgewater Bulletin Bridgewater,NS April 1981
