Reed, 70, of Adams Center, New York, died on March 1, 1989, at Englewood (Florida) Hospital. Reed was born in Adams Center on May 7, 1918, the son of Elwin and Mary (Hull) Reed. He was graduated from Adams Center High School in June, 1936. Follow-ing graduation, he worked on his father's farm for six years. On September 9, 1942, he married Mary Ellen Greene at the Abury United Methodist Church, Watertown, New York, with the Rev. Dr. George H. McClung officiating. Following their marriage, the couple purchased the farm next to Mr. Reed's father's farm. They operated the farm until the fall of 1978, when they sold it to their sons. Reed was a member of the Adams Center Seventh Day Baptist Church and an associate member of the Rotonda West Community Church, Englewood, where they lived during the winter months. He was also a member of the Adams Center Grange, the Jefferson County Farm Bureau, and the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. He was a committeeman for Agway and served on the board of directors of various farm organiza-tions, including Jeff Bulk Milk Co-op, Production Credit, and the Cooperative Extension Association. Surviving are his wife, Mary Ellen; four sons, Merrick M., Dan D., Alan G., and Mason J., all of Adams Center; a daughter, Connie Snow of West Lafayette, Indiana; two brothers, Olin H. and Ray-mond, both of Adams Center; and nine grandchildren. A sister, Helen Jones, died in 1979. Funeral services were held on March 6, 1989, at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville, New York, with his pastor, Rev. Gene Smith, officiating.
