Obituary: Bertie 'Bert' Wayne Stonehouse, age 70, of Sydney, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011
Born in Masstown, N.S., he was a son of the late Layton and Lila (Stevens) Stonehouse.
Bert was employed with Steadmans, then Alteen's Jewelers, then operated his own convenience store known as Westmount Dairy until his retirement in 1996. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing. He made Serpentine Jewelry and sold it online for many years.
A great family man, he loved his children and grandchildren. A great passion of his was playing guitar, and he always kept one close by.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Dale in 2008 and a brother, Frederick.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the W. Allen Funeral Home, 60 Water St., Oxford, N.S., where visiting hours were held on Friday from 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service took place at the funeral home on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011 at 11 a.m., burial in the Millvale Cemetery.
