  • Obituary: JOHNSON Doris Gertrude (Blackburn) - 89, of Calgary and formerly of Brookfield, NS, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2009. Doris was born at Cambridge Station, Kings County, Nova Scotia on December 16, 1919. Throughout her life, she worked at Eastern Factory, Truro, Sunrise Restaurant ,Brookfield and John Ross Yarn Barn in Truro. She was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary Branch 26 in Truro. She loved "Bingo" and travelling. Doris was residing in Calgary at the time of her passing. Doris is survived by her loving daughters, Glenora Gamble, Upper Economy; Vivian (Bill) Paul, Calgary; Shirley (Victor) DeBay, Brookfield; Donna Leslie and Rob, South Branch; Karen (John) Blinn, Truro; Barbara Johnson and Gordon, Debert; sons, Harry "Speed" (Louise), Winnipeg, MB; Wayne and Chris, Gordon, Tommy, Randy, all of Calgary; Douglas (Carol), Alliston, ON; Jimmy (Donna), Darrell (Marilyn), both of Truro; Steven (Theresa), Brampton, ON; stepson, George, Upper Economy; forty-five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Melvin Edson Johnson; parents, James and Lily Blackburn; son-in-law, Derral Gamble; one grandchild; three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Clarence and Leonard; sisters, Sadie and Jennie. A Memorial Service was held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Fish Creek Chapel, Calgary, AB on Saturday, December 12, 2009. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 19 in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St, Truro, Rev. Larry Harrison officiating. Spring interment in Crossroads Cemetery, Valley. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
