Notes

  • Obituary: It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, Catherine Ann Brenton, at age 74, on July 15, 2022. Born on July 25, 1947, in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Adam and Margaret (Bratley) Kennedy. "Cathy" was six years old when she lost her father suddenly, thus, her grandfather, RCMP Cpl. Charles Bratley, was instrumental in helping to raise her two younger sisters. She will be profoundly missed by her former husband of 25 years, William Brenton; her sister, Cheryl (Fred) Hill; her children, Carolyn (Derrick) Higgins, Kelly (Margie) Brenton, Jo-Ellen (John) Strickland, Wendy Brenton, and Jennifer (Jay) Plunkett, to whom she was a special "Nanny". She had a special place in her heart for her ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, as well as her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sister, Wanda Weatherbee, and a son, Mark, at birth. While raising a young, busy family and fostering a number of other children, mom struggled with bipolar disorder for many years. Eventually finding a healthy balance, she lived a life of contentment and fierce independence, which was ultimately shortened by a diagnosis of Lewy body dementia several years ago. During her best years, mom enjoyed baking, gardening, tea time with a few good friends, and of course, activities with the Red Hat Ladies. We give special thanks to all the staff at Debert Court for the excellent care provided to our mom since September, 2021. We also appreciate the Dalhousie Department of Anatomy, which has graciously accepted her body as a donation to science, which was mom's wish. Because of this, we will not be having a service at this time. We will have a private memorial service at a later date. Chronicle Herald Halifax,NS July 19,2022
