Florence Lillie Burgess '96 98, Bible Hill, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, September 5, 2017, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Ingonish, Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late John and Florence (Wilson) Hardy, who were a fishing family in that community.
Florence was a member of St. John's Anglican Church, Truro. When she moved to Truro, she was a housekeeper for various families and after marriage, she looked after her own home and family. She was very meticulous about her appearance and there was never anything out of place at her house. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, enjoyed cooking meals for special occasions for her family and absolutely loved when her step great grandchildren would visit.
Florence is survived by her sisters, Mary Matthews, Edmonton, Alberta; Blanche Bayliss, Toronto, Ontario; Shirley (Valmore) Dumais, Kingston, Ontario; brother, Ewart Hardy, Ingonish; step daughter, Kaye Waller, Stoney Creek, Ontario; step daughter-in-law, Charlotte Burgess, Murray Siding; step grandchildren, Denise Burgess (Tom Thomson), Valley; Charlene Burgess, Truro; Nathan (Leona) Burgess, Belleville, Ontario; William "Willie" (Carrie) Burgess, Bible Hill; Stephanie (Frank) Dukarich, Stoney Creek, Ontario; David Waller (Barbara), England; numerous step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Arleigh William Burgess; step son, Dennis Burgess; sisters, Minnie MacLean, Violet MacLean; brothers, George Hardy, Duncan Hardy; nephew, Weldon Matthews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall '96 Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Honouring Florence's wishes, a private funeral service will be held with The Reverend Lori Ramsey officiating. Interment in Terrace Hill Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Florence's memory to Diabetes Canada are welcomed.
