  • Obituary: Dennis Arleigh William "Dennie" Burgess - 75, Murray Siding, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 14, 2009 in Colchester Regional Hospital. Born May 23, 1933 in Truro, he was a son of the late Arleigh and Dorothy (Campbell) Burgess. Dennie worked with his father in the family plastering business, A.W. Burgess & Son, and assumed responsibility of the business in 1972 following the death of his father. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing and just being outside. He also enjoyed vegetable gardening and collecting antiques. Dennie is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Charlotte (Callaghan); step-mother, Mrs. Florence L. Burgess, Bible Hill; daughters, Denise Burgess, Truro (Tom Thomson, Bridgewater); Charlene Burgess, Bible Hill; twin sons, William "Willie", Bible Hill (fiancĂ©e, Carrie MacLean, Valley) and Nathan (fiancĂ©e, Leona MacLeod), CFB Cold Lake, Alberta; grandchildren, Connor, Austin and Kilah MacCoul, Callaghan Burgess; sister, Katherine (Dr. Charles) Waller, Airdrie, Alberta; aunt, Miss Florence E. Burgess, Truro; niece, Stephanie (Frank) Dukarich, Ontario; nephew, David Waller, Calgary; numerous cousins; special family friend, Dana MacCoul, Lower Harmony. He was predeceased by one brother in infancy. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Dennie's family will receive friends from 2-4, 7-9 pm Thursday, March 19, 2009 and where the funeral service will be held 4 pm Friday, March 20, 2009, Deacon Brian Smith officiating. Reception will follow. Spring interment will be held in Terrace Hill Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Dennie's memory to Bible Hill Village Pre School Society or Kane's Kitchen are welcomed.
