  • Obituary: (O'Brien), Edna - Born in Middleboro, on October 10, 1912, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2008, peacefully in her 96th year in St. Joseph's Lifecare Centre, Brantford Ont. She was the beloved wife of the late Alfred Percy Thompson (deceased 1988); loving mother of Betty, Emma (deceased), Connie, Shelly and Sharon; cherished grandmother to 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was sister to Andy, Harry, Charlie, Earl, Arthur, Nellie, Sara, Hilda, and Alma. Her parents were Elizabeth Fisher O'Brien and Mansfield (Hatfield) O'Brien of Middleboro. Prior to the Second World War, Edna worked as a cook in lumber camps in Cumberland County. In the 40s (during the Second World War) she ran a boarding house in Truro. In the 50s, Edna was a seamstress at Eaton's in Hamilton, Ont. She also worked for International Harvester in Hamilton and at the Burlington Post Office. In the 60s, Edna and Alfred purchased and operated a recreational park, Coral Park, in Kilbride, Ont. Edna was very involved with the church. She was a Deaconess at Temple Baptist Church in Brantford, for many years. Edna enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, singing, dancing, as well as writing and reciting poetry. She traveled to many places including Israel, Bahamas, United States and across Canada to British Columbia. A Memorial was held in Thorpe Brothers' Funeral Home, Brantford, on April 10, 2008. A graveside service for both Alfred and Edna will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 28, in Riverside Cemetery, Wallace River.
