  • Obituary: Fisher, Dorothy Mae - 90 Truro, passed away Friday, May 27, 2011, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Sylvester, Pictou County, NS, she was a daughter of the late Reuben and Caroline (Clarke) Dickson. Dorothy married Colie in 1941 and when he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II she moved home to Trenton to help the war effort by working as a machinist making parts for guns. She was known as one of the Gun Shop Girls. After the war, she raised her family in Truro and worked at the Sally Shop on Inglis Street until her retirement. Mum was always willing to help her family in anyway and was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by son, Scott (Cathy) Shortts Lake; grandchildren, Colin (Jillian) Belnan, Hants Co.; Nicole Corkum (Nick) St. Andrew's, Antigonish Co.; Suzanne Pye (Glenn) Ottawa; Sheri Daley, Truro; Great-grandchildren, Aidan and Dylan Pye, Noah and Abbey Fisher, Eva Corkum; son-in-law, Clayton Daley, Shortts Lake; brother, Wally Dickson, Montague, PE; sister, Jessie Polley, Egerton, Pictou Co. She was predeceased by her husband, Colin Dartt Fisher; daughter, Pauline; brothers, Earl, Archie, Ted, Bob; sisters, Vina Campbell, Hannah Dickson. Visitation will take place from 1 pm until funeral service time at 2 pm, on Tuesday, May 31st, in the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Rev. Betty Darby will officiate with burial to follow in Pinegrove Cemetery, Stewiacke East. Donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to First United Church, Truro. A special note of appreciation to Isabel Code who has been a great friend to Mom, also to Kirby and Carla Thompson, Dave Hanham, for their support at her cottage each summer and to Blair and Janice Faulkner her neighbour on Hingley Ave. Also special thanks to Dr. Berghuis who has monitored her health and was there when he was needed the most.
