  • Obituary: http://www.familycare.ca/obituaries/55131 HORSNELL, Clyde Sands "Sandy"- 66, Falmouth, Hants Co., passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 29, 2010, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Aylesford, Kings Co., he was the son of the late Wilfred and Isabell (Aylward) Horsnell. Sandy grew up in Dempsey Corner on his fathers farm. At age 18, while waiting to enter the RCMP, Sandy along with an older friend, took the trip of his lifetime travelling on an old fishing boat from the Bay of Fundy, in the Annapolis Valley, to Florida using just a road map. Sandy entered the RCMP at the age of 19, completing his training for 9 months in Ottawa and being one of the last recruits to train on the RCMP horses, which was a mandatory part of the recruit training at that time. His extensive policing career saw him as an RCMP officer for 27 years and an OPP officer for 6 years. His career included postings in Ottawa, Northwest Territories, Ontario and Nova Scotia (including, Baddeck, New Minas, Antigonish, Windsor and Halifax Customs, as an investigator). During his career Sandy earned his crown pistols and crown rifles badges which he proudly wore. Sandy always said he had a fulfilling career that he would have never changed for anything. He was a member of the Aylesford Lions Club. Sandy was a Mason and member of Harmony Lodge No. 52, Aylesford; Valley Chapter of Royal Arch Masons, Middleton; Adoniram Council No. 10, Wolfville; Mount Zion Preceptory No. 73, Kentville; Welsford Lodge No. 26, Windsor and The Hiram Chapter No. 3 of Royal Arch Masons, Windsor. Sandy enjoyed tractor pulling and was known as the "County Mountie" tractor puller. Since retirement, he built six homes which he himself had sewn the logs for. Sandy enjoyed curling (and even had himself an eight ender), golfing and was an avid reader as well as a great story teller. Sandy was a wonderful grampy and poppy and was a devoted family man who will be dearly missed by all the family members. Surviving are his loving wife, the former, Patricia "Luvy" Clark; son, Shawn Horsnell, Vancouver; step-son, Blair (Christina) Baker, Falmouth; daughter, Aleta-Jo "Muffet" Bird, Indiana; step-daughters, Angie Shanks and Tricia Brown, both of Falmouth; grandchildren, Chip, Chelsea, Madeline, Sophie, Noah, Logan, Sydney and Cameron; brother, Laurie (Joyce) Horsnell, Aylesford; sister, Mary Louise Rippey, Windsor. Sandy was predeceased by his step-daughter, Tami Tran and brother, Eric Horsnell. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lohnes - DeMont Funeral Service Ltd., 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317), where Welsford Lodge No. 26, A.F. & A.M., Windsor, will conduct a Masonic Service at 7 p.m., followed by visitation until 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 31. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, August 1, in Windsor United Church, 613 King St., Windsor, Rev. Bill Gibson officiating. Private family burial will take place in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor, with a reception to follow in the Windsor Curling Club.
