Born in Saint John, N.B., on October 30, 1909, she was the only daughter of the late Archibald and Grace (Estabrooks) Tapley. She grew up in Saint John and graduated from Saint John High School in 1927 and then from Saint John Vocational College where she took a course in Art and Design. She married Curtis Holmes Chipman on August 24, 1934, and they resided in Bedford from 1940 to 1961. She was active in the Bedford Baptist Church as a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Women's Missionary Society. She was also a member of the Home and School Association, the Tennis Club and the Eleven Club. She enjoyed part-time employment in the family business, Kings Bedford. In 1961, the family moved to Wolfville where she taught Sunday school in the Wolfville Baptist Church and was active in the EKM Hospital Auxiliary. A loving homemaker, she enjoyed gardening and the natural world, and along with her husband she was granted a life membership in the Blomidon Naturalist Society and in the Nova Scotia Bird Society. A loving wife and mother, she is survived by her husband of 70 years and by their children, Fred (Nancy), Wolfville; Carol (Ron) Buckley, Port Williams; Beth, Connecticut; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by son, Lowell in 1953; siblings, Lowell, Charles, and John. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by family request. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Wolfville Baptist Church, Rev. Barry Morrison officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Brookside Cemetery, Bedford. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital or Christian Children's Fund, 1027 McNicoll Ave., Toronto, ON M1W 3X2.
