Obituary: Captain Leonard Elton MacDonald has set sail on his final voyage. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished friend. On August 31st, 2023 Leonard passed away peacefully with family by his side after a long hard-fought battle with cancer. Leonard was the proud Captain of the Northumberland Ferries for 43 years and made lifelong friendships that he cherished. He is predeceased by his mother, Vera Vivian (Zinc) and father, Gordon Earnest MacDonald. Leonard's strong work ethic and love for his farm and cattle began at a young age as he worked alongside his mother on the farm. Leonard is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Judith Gail MacDonald, and his loving sons, Timmy (Angela), Joey (Shannon), and Richie (Stacey), and his bonus son, Paul. He was most proud of his grandchildren; Camden, Kendall, Mya, Brooke, and Addison, they were the light of his life. Papa's playful, kind-hearted, and generous nature will live on as his grandchildren continue to play cards and butter noses remembering him fondly. Leonard shared a love for antique cars with his brothers, Rolie (Judy), and Greg, and niece Stacy. He leaves behind many loved ones including brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nephews, and nieces. There will be a private graveside ceremony for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice in his honor.
