Notes

  • Obituary: The family is heartbroken to announce the passing of John Eldridge Crowe (Jack) of Riversdale, Nova Scotia, on June 24, 2025. John was 93 years young and spent his final days at Cedarstone after suffering a stroke in March, from which he never fully recovered. John was born in Stewiacke to the late Ambrose and Beatrice (Crouse) Crowe. He is survived by his devoted and beloved wife, Lois Marlene (Irving); also, his children, Wayne (Shelley), Randy (Debbie), Allan (Tess), Debbie Matheson (Randy), and Marlene Atkin. John is also survived by six grandchildren, Crystal Richards, Jonathan Matheson, Pascal Atkin, Shane and Luc Crowe, and Kailei Crowe; and eight great-grandchildren, Will and Jordan Richards, Denver, Sierra, and Silas Atkin, and Graham, Craig, and Alice Matheson. He was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Priscilla, Phyllis, Ellen, Ida, and Ricky Crowe. In 1968, Dad started his own company, Central Plastering Co., which thrived well into the 90s. He became well-known and respected in the business, along with his sons and his wife, Lois, who also played a key part in the success of their business. Dad was a man of many interests and throughout his life was involved in stock car racing, hunting, fishing, trapping, fox farming, and spending time at the cabin in Guysborough with Mom, us kids, family and friends. He was a founding member of The Nova Scotia Cat and Coon Club, which he was a part of for over 20 years. After retiring from the plastering business, Mom and Dad built their home in Riversdale, where they continued to nurture the land with their love for over 30 years. They spent their time enjoying the outdoors, constantly on the move by making trails, fishponds, and appreciating the wildlife that surrounded them. We're forever thankful that we all got to learn and grow with this great "man of the woods," as his grandchildren call him. Whenever anyone went to visit, they would often have to track him down amongst the many trees he planted and cared for. He was always working on something, always planting something, and always ensuring his land would be fruitful and full of love for many years to come. For 93 years, Dad's life was truly a labour of love. We will think of him every time we take a walk in the woods, every time we go fishing, and every time we have a good feed of wild meat. When we teach our children about what it means to lead a wholesome life, Dad and Mom are the examples we look to. We love and appreciate the lessons and work ethic that he has passed on to all of us. John, Dad, Grampy, you are loved beyond expression and will be forever missed by your loving wife, Lois and family. If desired, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Dad's honour. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, and cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 26th from 2-4pm in the Hilden United Church Hall, Hilden, NS. Honouring Mom and Dad's wishes, there will be no funeral service. Interment will be at a later date.
