  • Obituary: January 17,1934 ~ September 27, 2024 Lloyd George Ward, 90 of Ross Creek passed away at his home surrounded by his family after a 10-month journey of complicated health issues. Lloyd was born on January 17, 1934 in Glenmont, NS to Clarence "Ted" and Susan "Susie" (Hines) Ward. Lloyd grew up on the Canning mountain and began his independence at 9 years old working on farms in the community and later in the woods until joining the Royal Canadian Army Service Corp in 1953. In 1955 he traveled abroad to serve in the First Division Lahr, Germany. Lloyd also spent portions of his army career in Ontario, Debert, Halifax, Gagetown and Aldershot. Returning in 1957 Lloyd married the love of his life, Wilma Mary Illsley on October 19th, 1957. Together they raised three daughters Debbie, Wendy and Mary Lou. The early years of his life were devoted to learning trades and a solid work ethic. Taking the knowledge he had gathered from his childhood and army careers Lloyd purchased his own farm in 1960. Lloyd had an abounding love for the land and traveled the mountain to acquire more acreage to feed his herd of Hereford cattle and grow potatoes for Hostess Foods. In 1967, Lloyd began driving the bus for W.C. Rooney Transport. Over the years Lloyd shared the bounty of his labors with friends and neighbors alike. Always eager to bring beets, pickles, pies, or his famous biscuits to those who rewarded him with their thankful smiles. Lloyd devoted his life to helping those in need, doing whatever was asked of him and asking for nothing in return. The smile was payment enough for the kind deeds he gifted others. In 2000 Lloyd sold his life's work and began to enjoy retirement. Spending time with grandchildren and family became a journey that took him all the way to from the east coast to Montana, USA. Lloyd lived a quiet stoic life instilling a work ethic in his girls that will go on for generations to come; being true to your word and any job worth doing is worth doing well. A tenacity that knows no boundaries, as the last 10 months have been nothing short of tenacious. The stories and the memories he shared with his family over the past few months shed light and lent a hand in seeing the life of the boy, the man, and the hero that we know to be our DAD. They say the greatest gift a DAD can give his children is to love their mother and he LOVED Wilma with his whole heart and soul. She was the sun in his morning and stars in his night and together they enjoyed their simple moments together. Lloyd will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Lloyd is survived by his wife of 66 years Wilma; daughters, Debbie (Lionel) Borden, Lower Onslow NS; Wendy (Pat) Coolen, Ross Corner NS; and Mary Lou (Mark) Urquhart, North Dakota; seven grandchildren: Gerry (Melissa) Coolen, Chris Borden, Tara (Rob Phillips) Borden, Mike (Andrea) Coolen, Greg (Sarah) Coolen, Kelsey (Matthew Darby) Urquhart, and Nick (Dayton) Urquhart; eight great grandchildren; sisters, Emma Corkum, Bernice Kempton and Dianna DeAdder; brothers, Don (Sharon) Ward and Bill (Donna) Ward. Preceded in death by parents Ted and Susie (Hines) Ward; brothers, Crandall and Lindsay; and sister, Grace. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. The funeral service (with livestream) will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Reverend Ivan Norton officiating. Interment will take place in Hillaton Cemetery. Donations in memory can be made to the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation, VON or Palliative Care. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. Special thank you from Lloyd's family to the VON Home Care team, Palliative Care \endash Drs. Burch and Burgess, Amanda and Mallory. VON nursing, VRH Physical and OT therapy teams. EHS paramedics, the many VRH Dr's and nurses, including those in the ER, Med A and Med B and CTA personnel, Dr. Esther Cogswell and Jill. Mary Robinson - Community Care Coordinator, Veterans Affairs, Dr. Forward and the hematology team at QEII, Caleb and the team at Family First Medical, and the many neighbors, friends, and family that made their way in to see Lloyd during his healthcare journey.
