Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Florence (Carter) Matheson. Winnie owned and operated W.R. Bar Farms for 32 years and being an avid woodsman, he could be found on his Belarus tractor cutting pulpwood and firewood just about anywhere, and sometimes cutting in places where he shouldn't have been! Winnie was a member of Middle Stewiacke United Church where he sang in the choir and served on the Board of Stewards. He was a member of Brookfield Men's Club where he had served as Past President, was an avid golfer and had a "Hole in One" at Brookfield Golf and Country Club, and in earlier years, was an exceptional hockey player and later having played with Middle Stewiacke Cougars. Winnie is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ruth (Grant); children, Trevor Matheson, Hilden; Sarah Matheson (Perry MacPhee), Shubenacadie; siblings, Edna Graham, Brookfield; Wilma Avila, Kansas; Letha Mowatt, Bible Hill; John (Lynn) Matheson, Brookfield; Hugh (Judy) Matheson, Brookfield; Vaughan "Gab" (Donna) Matheson, Brookfield; sister-in-law, Myrna Matheson, Brookfield; brother-in-law, Gordon (Donna) Grant, Hardwoodlands; several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Verna (Donnie) Locke; brothers, Ken Matheson, Gordon "Gully" Matheson; brother-in-law, Ed Graham. Special thanks are extended to the Palliative Care Unit (CEHHC) and all of the doctors, nurses and staff of all units for their exceptional care.
