  • Obituary: John F. Yelle, 64, a lifelong resident of Norton, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI. Born in Attleboro, MA on April 6, 1948, he was a loving son of the late Leo G., Sr. and Ruth M. (Courtney) Yelle. Educated in Norton schools, he was a 1966 graduate of Norton High School and had attended college in Monterey, California as an art student. Throughout his life John firmly believed in the concept of continuing education. Prior to retiring, he was a self employed contractor and operated under the company name of John F. Yelle, Inc. When younger, John was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and proudly achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He loved the arts and painting and especially enjoyed working with his hands in the art of sculpturing. A lifelong communicant of St. Mary's Church in Norton, John was an avid reader, enjoyed canoeing and spending time with his family. He will always be remembered for his out going personality and social skills. He is survived by his devoted children, Taren H. Yelle and her partner Joel Gruhn of Barrington, Rhode Island and Andrew F. Yelle and his wife Tina of Stoneham. The dear brother of Leo G. Yelle, Jr. of New Hampshire, Shirley L. MacPhee of Mansfield, A. Courtney Yelle of Florida, Paula R. Bishop of Florida and Peter H. Yelle of New Hampshire, he is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Evan, Connor and Ava Yelle, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and his former wife Anne M. (Franklin) Yelle of Canada. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on in St. Mary's Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial will be private. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, Oct. 11 from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.
