Belcher, of Upper Canard, passed away on Thursday last, after a short illness from paralysis, at the age of 77 years. The deceased has been active in the duties of life for many years; was widely known and everywhere respected. He was an able and popular Militia Officer, being, for many years, Senior Major of the 68th Regiment and was promoted to the Command of the Regiment, as Lieut. Colonel, on the retirement of the late Colonel Chipman. In his removal, hundreds of the younger men of this, his native County, mourn the loss of a personal friend. Mrs. Belcher, who survives him, was formerly Miss Rachel Shaw, daughter of the late Mr. James Shaw, of Berwick. They celebrated their golden wedding in February, 1913. He leaves three daughters, Mrs. James E. Eaton, Lower Canard, Mrs. Charles S. Barss, of Wolfville, and Mrs. Lewis K. Payzant, of Dartmouth.
