  • Obituary: Dennis Wayne Gary, 76, of Uvalde, Texas passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at North Central Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Born in Uvalde, Texas, on Feb. 16, 1950, to JT Gary and Doris (Alley) Gary, Dennis was raised in Uvalde and remained deeply rooted there throughout his life. He graduated from Uvalde High School in 1968 and later earned a degree from Southwest Texas Junior College. Over the years, Dennis and his wife, Shann, made homes in Sonora and Brackettville before eventually settling permanently in Uvalde. Dennis worked at the Uvalde Proving Grounds Test Track in his younger years before spending much of his life farming for R.B. Willoughby Farms. Later, after the transition to Panther City Ranch, he found the work he loved most alongside the cowboys and cattle that made ranch life feel less like work and more like home. Ranching, cowboying, and roping were not just things Dennis did; they were part of who he was. Some of his happiest years were spent horseback, working cattle, laughing with the men he worked beside, and coming home each day with stories to tell. Dennis was known for his strong work ethic, impeccable character, and quick sense of humor. He loved teasing the people around him and rarely missed the opportunity to give someone a hard time, especially those he cared about most. Beneath that humor was a man people respected deeply \emdash dependable, honest, and always willing to help when needed. On Aug. 18, 1973, Dennis married the love of his life, Shann Gary, and together they built a life centered on family, ranching, roping, hard work, laughter, and unwavering devotion to one another. Whether working cattle, going to ropings, or caring for the small herd they raised together at home, the two spent much of their life together. Dennis especially looked forward to calving season each year and loved naming the calves after they arrived. Spring often brought friendly bets, laughter, and bragging rights over which heifer would calve first. Those who knew them knew it was rare for Dennis and Shann to spend nights apart, a closeness and partnership that remained unchanged throughout their lives together. Dennis is survived by his wife, Shann Gary; his daughter, Melissa Adkins; his grandson, Tyler Adkins; and his granddaughter, McClay Adkins, whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many longtime friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, JT Gary and Doris (Alley) Gary. Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Willoughby, Cody Henry, Ray King, Nathan Verstuyft, Kincaid Light, and Neal Brewster. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, laughter, and a life well lived. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. Celebration of Life service information will be announced at a later date.
