  • Obituary: Lloyd "Bud" Ray, 90, of Pearsall, TX passed away in the Lord on April 17, 2021. Lloyd was born in Twitty, TX on January 4, 1931. Lloyd graduated from high school in Corpus Christi, TX. Bud bravely fought in the Korean War as a United States Marine. After the war, he played football at Texas Tech University, until an injury caused him to retire. He transferred to Texas A&I University in Kingsville, TX, where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture. He later graduated from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, TX with a Master's degree in Education. Lloyd married the love of his life, Helon Marion Ray. They raised their two children, Helon Denise Ray and Michael David Ray, in Smithville, TX. Bud served his community as a teacher, coach, and administrator for Smithville ISD. He later began a career in oil/gas, retiring from Aquila Gas Pipeline in June of 2000. Upon retirement, Bud settled in Pearsall, TX, where he lived the remainder of his life in peace on the family ranch. Lloyd is preceded in death by Helon Marion Ray, Helon Denise Ray, parents W.C. and Rose Ella Ray; and his eight siblings, Floyd, Bernice "Bunk", Elmer "Eck", Jimmye, Bobby Dean, Tess, Nell, and Willie Joe. Visitation will be held at 5:00pm-7:00pm on April 23, at Marrs-Jones Funeral Home.The funeral service will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, April 24 at Marrs-Jones Funeral Home with burial to follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Smithville, Texas. Flowers may be sent to Marrs-Jones Funeral Home.
