He was a native of this county, having been born at Wilmot, but at the age of seventeen moved to the above named place, being among the first settlers. On the establishment of the first post office in New Germany, over forty years ago, he was appointed Post Master. Which office he worthily filled to the date of his sickness. He was a great advocate of temperance and worker in the church, having been a member for over fifty years. Much sympathy is felt for the aged widow, three sons and two daughters who survive him.
