  • Obituary: Gregg Allan Gilliatt, 94, Granville Centre, died June 12 in the Annapolis Royal General Hospital, Annapolis Royal. Born in Fredericton, NB he was a son of the late Edward Perry and Inez (Pearson) Gilliatt. As a young man, he went to Western Canada and also travelled in the American Midwest. He then went to Boston, where he worked in a department store. He became employed with Hood's Dairy in Boston, one of New England's largest dairies of which he later became manager. He returned to Nova Scotia and helped build the lighthouse on Brier Island. In 1945, he became manager of Digby Dairy Ltd., which was a major employer in Digby at the time. He remained manager for 27 years until the dairy was sold to Twin Cities Cooperative Dairy Ltd., where he worked for a short time before retiring to Granville Centre. While in Digby, he was a town councillor, served on the Digby Water Commission, Digby General Hospital Board, the local school board and for many years served with the Digby Fire Department. He was an avid sports enthusiast, playing baseball and enjoying hockey. He was a member of the Granville Centre United Baptist Church, member of King Solomon Masonic Lodge 54 for some 46 years, joining in 1946 and in 1956 was master of the lodge. He is survived by 7 cousins. Bruce Gilliatt, Digby (who cared for him); Carroll, Jr. And Robert, both of Halifax; 2 in Ontario; 1 in B.C.; 1 in Zimbabwe. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Glendonna Blair; 2 sisters: twin Ardath and Helen. The funeral was in Granville Centre United Baptist Church, Reverend Derrick Marshall officiating. Burial was in Wadeville Cemetery, Granville Centre, under the direction of Robert L Hall Funeral Home, Bridgetown. Annapolis Spectator Annapolis royal,NS June 28,1994
