  • Obituary: Donald Nissen, 68 of Ashby passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2010 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota under the care of Hospice. Donald Fredrick Nissen was born on January 23, 1942 in Sisseton, South Dakota the son of Carl and Myrtle (Stensrud) Nissen. He attended school in New Effington, SD, Mapleton, SD, Fargo and West Fargo, ND. He served five years with the U.S. Navy. Donald and Rosie Grover were married on June 22, 1968 in Browns Valley, Minnesota. Born to Donald and Rosie were two children, Teresa Marie and Thomas Toren. They lived in South Fargo for forty years where they raised their family. Donald was employed with SuperValu for thirty years, and after his retirement they moved to Ashby where Donald worked several years with the Ashby School. He enjoyed his children and 4 grandchildren, watching and feeding birds, Donald and Rosie loved to travel, traveling to various locations in the United States and also traveled abroad. He was a member of the West Fargo VFW, the Ashby American Legion Post #357 and the Ashby Lions Club. He is survived by his wife, Rosie; daughter, Teresa (Jason) Jochim, Megan and Spencer of Horace, ND; son, Thomas (Kathy) Nissen, Erin and Kieran of Silverdale, WA.; sisters, Barbara (Richard) Lien, Gwen (Neil) Johnson, Sandra (Dennis) Berg and Julie (Chuck) DeBolt; brothers, Fred (Cherie) Nissen and Toren (Sheri) Nissen and survived by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Myrtle Nissen and by a brother, Richard Nissen. Funeral Service: 11 am, Monday, September 20, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church in Ashby. Visitation: Sunday from 2 to 4 pm with a Prayer Service at 4 pm at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Ashby Clergy: Rev. William O. Gilbert III Burial: Pelican Lake Cemetery in Ashb
