  • Obituary: Joyce C. Francis, 68, was called home to the Lord on Wednesday, January 13, 1999 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and caring friend. She was born in Luerders, Texas and has resided in Corpus Christi since 1959. She was employed by C.C.I.S.D. since 1964 retiring on August 31, 1998, the last nine years as a secretary to the Superintendent. She was involved in CESA (Coastal Educational Secretaries Association) & TESA (Texas Education Secretaries Association) holding various offices over the years. She was awarded National Educational Office Professional of the year in 1979. Also in 1979 Mrs. Francis was instrumental in developing and writing paraprofessional state certification requirements adopted by Texas Education Agency and upgraded the Paraprofessional Certification requirements in 1997. Mrs. Francis was an active member of St. Lukes UMC serving several terms on the Administrative Board as Secretary, most recently on the Pastor-Parish-Relations Committee, and was also a member of other committees. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, William B. (Buck) Francis, four children, Deena (Ralph) Westbrook of The Woodlands, Glenn (Andrea) Francis of Sugarland, Bruce (Debi) Francis and Melissa (David) Wright of Corpus Christi; nine grandchildren and one great-granchild; mother, J. W. Fowler, two sisters, Anna King and Pepper Strain all of Dallas and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation was from 4:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 14, 1999 at the Seaside Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 15, 1999 at St. Lukes United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
