  • Obituary: It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Ralph Leslie Hamilton, 87, of North River, on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at the Halifax Infirmary, QEII Heath Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Minasville, he was a son of the late Edward Reynolds Hamilton and Greta Bell (Hill) Hughes. Ralph spent much of his early years in the transport industry, and in shipping/receiving at Yould’s Limited, and later self-employed as a carpenter. He was a dedicated community member and a founding member of the North River Fire Brigade. He was a Cub Leader with the Boy Scouts of Canada, and held several titles within the Welsh Pony and Cobb Society of Canada. His ponies occupied most of his time during his later years, both showing and judging. Ralph was a family man through and through. He was a devoted husband to his wife Jean and had been her primary care giver for the past 10 plus years since her stroke. Ralph loved being involved and helping his children and grandchildren with anything they needed and was always interested in what was going on in their lives. Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Frances Jean (Carter) Hamilton; daughter, Donna Curtis, Valley; sons, Roger, North River, and Neil (Roxanne), Crowes Mills. He is also survived by his brother, Cyril (Ailene); sister, Georgina; grandchildren, Stacy (Abdullah), Ryan (April), Ashley (Kyle), Chantal (Alan), Gabrielle (Ryan), Riley (Emily); great grandchildren, Kyla, Ryan, Lucas, Jackson, Zain, Ivy and Amelia; brother-in-law, Victor (Myrtle) Carter; sisters-in-law, Irene (Patt) Dunphy, and Marie (Neal) Bowers; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister-in-law, Betty Hamilton; brother-in-law, Don Brown; son-in-law, David Curtis; and infant brother, Edgar Prescott. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Thursday, March 30, 2023 and funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Friday, March 31, 2023, Reverend Andrew Campbell officiating. Interment in Watson Cemetery will be held at a later date. If so desired, donations to North River and District Fire Brigade or a charity of your choice are welcomed.
