  • Obituary: The death of Donald Eden Mayhew "Donnie" Fisher, 77, of Amherst, occurred at the Halifax Infirmary on Wednesday, June 11, 2014. Born in Shinimicas, Donnie was a son of the late Eden and Stella (Smith) Fisher. Donnie graduated from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and immediately took a position with the Federation of Agriculture. He had dedicated his life to farming as well as having a twenty-five year career with the Canadian Salt Company. He was involved in various committees and the local 4-H. A devoted, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Donnie was known to be a kind and generous man with a great passion for life in general. He loved to dance, especially in Nine Mile River every Saturday night. Donnie will be sadly missed by four children, Jacob (Lacey) Fisher, Shinimicas, Christa (Dean) Shipley, Lower Shinimicas; Jaeden Fisher, Amherst and Teesha (Damien Lawless) Fisher, Amherst Head; his partner, Sharon King and her family, Stewiacke; seven grandchildren, Alisha (Dave) Robichaud, Izea, Parker, Adelynn, Grace, Trexstin, and Summer; a great grandchild, Caleb; his sister, Joyce (Cyril) Trueman, Truemanville; his former wife, Barbara Fisher of Amherst Head, and several special cousins. Donnie was predeceased by his parents and his best friend, Richard Beaumont. Arrangements are under the care and supervision of Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst from where a time of visitation will be held 7-9 pm on Saturday, June 14, 2014. A celebration of his life will be held at the Sunrise Trinity United Church on Sunday, June 15 at 4 pm. Burial to follow in the Shinimicas Cemetery. Donations in memory of Donnie may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Private condolences may be sent to the family by visiting:
