  • Obituary: Stronge, John Sanford '96 83, Truro passed away surrounded by his loving family on January 10, 2015 at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre. Born in Spencer Island, Cumberland County, he was a son of the late Earl and Hattie (Robinson) Stronge. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Helena (Rafuse). He is survived by his children, Betty (Brian) Blois, Mary (Raymond) Weatherbee, Ross (Laura) Stronge, Jane (Terry) Atkinson, Johnny (Denyse) Stronge and Donna (Lee) Atkinson; 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; sister, Ella Roy; brother, Dara (Marilyn) Stronge; foster brother Henry (Annes) Stronge; John was a great truck driver and enjoyed talking truck with his many friends. He loved watching Nascar, especially Jimmy Johnson #48. John worked for many years for Barnhill's, Eastern Transport and Albany Cartage, exceeding 3 million miles of accident free driving; receiving many awards. He will be missed by his neighborhood friends with whom he liked to sit outside with on summer days. John loved his children, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by brothers, Willard and Conrad; sisters, Evelyn and Cleta. Special thanks to VON, Drs. Smith, Dr. Singh, Dr. Munroe and the Palliative care staff. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 15 followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m., Rev. Larry Harrison officiating, both from Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. Donations in John's memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Cancer Society or the Palliative Care Unit at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.
