Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Charles and Helen (Carter) Smith. Clayton was an insurance underwriter for the past 45 years retiring in December of 2004. He was very active in his community with the Valley Rec-reation Association. Clayton was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan and had a great passion for gardening. Clayton was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. All will dearly miss him. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, the former Katherine 'Kathy' Macdonald; sons, Charles of Ottawa; Tony of Upper Ste-wiacke; Scott (Paula) of Vancouver, B.C.; grandchildren, Autumn, Keigan, Christopher; brother, Leslie (Sharon) of Truro; brothers-in-law, John Mac- Donald (Cheryl), Dan MacDonald (Melanie), Mike Tibbetts (Anne), Raymond Stevens; sisters-in-law, Jean Tingley (David), Loretta Nickerson (Loran), Fran MacDonald, Theresa MacDonald, June Jenkins (Dean), Laura MacDonald; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Clayton was predeceased by brothers-in- law, Leonard MacDonald, Lee Mac- Donald, Bernie MacDonald; sisters-in- law, Karen Stevens, Sandra Tib-betts. There will be no funeral service by Clayton's request. A Celebration of Clayton's life will take place on Thurs-day, November 1st from 2-4 p.m. in Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro. Family flowers only. Donations in Clayton's memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro.
