Born in Belmont, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Mabel (Cottam) Roode. She was a longtime employee with Eastern Hat and Cap and Bagnell's Dry Cleaning for a combined working career of over 50 years. She was a member of the Wesley United Church, Belmont and an adherent of the Belmont United Baptist Church. Verna enjoyed knitting and sewing and she continued to knit regularly up until the time of her passing. She is survived by daughters, Elizabeth "Betty" Reid; Ruth (Darrell) Turner, both of Belmont; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Harley Crowell; second husband, Colin Sherren; sisters, Alma Staples, Alberta Lynds, Muriel Bigsby, Eunice and Mabel in infancy; brothers, Russell Roode, Dimock Roode, Kenneth Roode. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 28th from 6-9 pm with funeral service on Tuesday, April 29th at 2:00 pm, both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, Rev. Darrell Feltmate officiating. Interment in Belmont Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to the Belmont United Baptist Church.
