Obituary: Cole, Lorne D. - 87, Truro Heights passed away peacefully June 15, 2009 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Richmond, Cumberland County on November 29, 1921, he was a son of the late Dimock and Kate (MacNeil) Cole. Lorne started working in the woods in his early teens before he worked in the trucking business. He purchased a small business and built it into Cole's Transfer Limited, a major employer in Tatamagouche during the 1960's, later relocating to North River. His business expanded over mainland Nova Scotia and New Brunswick where he operated it until it was sold to Speedway Transport in the early seventies. Lorne was a member of Sharon United Church, Tatamagouche and served as a volunteer member of the Tatamagouche Fire Department and a founding member of the North River Fire Brigade. He was a Nova Scotia Hunting Guide for over 50 years developing lifelong friendships with his American friends. He spent his leisure time fishing in Nova Scotia and taking legendary fishing trips to Newfoundland. Lorne is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pauline (Canton) Cole; children, Loreen (George W.) MacNutt, Truro Heights, Fred (Richard Corteel), Truro, Kim (Lynn MacKinnon), Bible Hill; grandchildren, Peter MacNutt (Kim), Cambridge, Ont., Patti Barkhouse (Doug), Lower Onslow, Danny MacNutt (Becky), Onslow Mountain, Justin and Jeremy Cole, Bible Hill; great-grandchildren, Kayla and Jenna MacNutt, Morgan and Cole Barkhouse, Nathaniel MacNutt; sisters, Marie Sinclair (Edgar), Goshen, Hazel Miller, Bible Hill, Cecilia Graham, Hamilton, Ont.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Lula, Katherine and Florence; brothers, Roy and Morris. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, June 20th at 1:00 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. Reception to follow the service. A private family interment will take place in Lockerby Cemetery, Tatamagouche. Family flowers only. Donations in Lorne's memory may be made to the North River Fire Brigade or a charity of choice.
