She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, homemaker and friend. Joyce worked alongside her husband on the family farm, from picking apples and driving the tractor to feeding her family and between eight to 10 workers. She would often bake up to a dozen apple pies a day. She was an avid crafter, tole painter, bowler and later in life (at the age of 69) taught herself to play the guitar and sing. She and her husband would attend jam sessions several times a week and at various locations between Port George and Hantsport. She is survived by her husband, Richard "Shorty"; three sons, Gary (Ruth), Peter (Carolyn) and Paul (Pam), all of Lakeville; five grandchildren, Cheryl (C.J.) Nauss, Nicholas (Sarah) D'Entremont, Jonathan (Nesta) D'Entremont, Scott (Tracy) D'Entremont and Jessica D'Entremont (Morgan Gale); seven great-grandchildren, Lucas, Elizabeth, Andrew, Joyce, Mary, Pascale and Adele; two sisters, Florence Porter, Grafton and Wilma (Lloyd) Ward, Ross Creek; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Marguerite Marchant. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2023 in the White Family Funeral Home, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2023, Father John MacPherson officiating. Burial will take place in the Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
