  • Obituary: LANGILLE, Charles Burton - Faulkland St., Pictou, on November 18, 2006, with family at his side, Charlie peacefully passed away, in Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow. Charlie was the first born of eight children to Clarence and Mary Belle, (Baird) Langille. Born on May 12, 1921, he was the last known person to be born on Munroe's Island, Pictou Co., but he spent his youth and early years on the family farm in Central Caribou. Always with a strong work ethic, Charlie had a varied career including fishing with his father, trucking, Pictou Shipyard employee, and car sales. For forty years Charlie was a familiar face on Church Street, first as operator of the Irving Service Station, and then as owner/operator of Langille's Esso. A real animal lover, during his 85 years, he was seldom without a dog, and he lovingly spoiled them all. Charlie will be remembered for his quiet humour, his easily contented nature, and his appreciation for the every day joys of life. Until recently, despite failing health, Charlie was able to remain at home, due in large part to the tremendous support of his wife. Married on Christmas Eve, 1953, Charlie is survived by his wife, Viola (Madore); children, Tanya Langille, Calgary, Alta.; Trudi Rodger, (Brian), Glen Haven; Karla McAloney, (Cecil), Bridgewater; Kerry Langille, Three Brooks; Korinne Elliott, (Allan), Scotsburn. Charlie or "Bumpy", as he was known to his grandchildren, was blessed with eight of them, Taggart and Tyler English, Adam and Cody McAloney, Sarah and Heather Rodger, Malcolm and Charlotte Elliott, and great-grandchildren, Bella and Robert English. He is also survived by his siblings, who he greatly treasured, sisters, Margaret McAllister, Moncton, N.B.; Mona Richards, Windsor, Ont.; brothers, Gordon Langille, Central Caribou; Alex Langille, Central Caribou; Lloyd Langille, Windsor, Ont. Charlie was predeceased by brother, John Langille, and sister, Nita Davidson. Charlie will be forever missed by his faithful dog, Billie. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Pictou United Church, Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity officiating. Burial will be in Seaview Cemetery. Family flowers only please. If desired, a donation in Charlie's name may be made to the SPCA, Aberdeen Palliative Care, or a charity of your choice.
