Notes

  • Obituary: Delaney, Edna Madeline, 90, of Valley, Colchester County, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 4, 2010. Born in Central New Annan on December 15, 1919, she was the daughter of the late James and Jessie (McQueen) Woodlock. Edna graduated from Wilson's School in New Annan in 1936. She worked at Stanfield's Ltd in Truro during the War Years. Following the war she worked at the Open Kitchen Restaurant on Pictou Road and later Mowbray's Veterinarian Clinic in Onslow. She successfully completed business courses from Shaw Schools Ltd In 1960 and graduated from Success Business College in 1965. She then began work at Sun Alliance Insurance where she remained for 18 years prior to her retirement in 1984. She was a longtime member of the People's Church and worked for many years in the Sunday School as a teacher, Department Superintendent and Secretary-Treasurer. She was also an active member of the Veterans' Widows and Widowers Association. The three scrapbooks she compiled during her time with the club as well as a book about her husband Byron's military service entitled "Wartime Memories", have been donated to the Royal Canadian Legion in Truro and can be viewed there. Edna enjoyed traveling and looked back on her trips through Canada, the US and Europe with many fond memories of the sights she'd seen, the people she met and particularly the people with whom she traveled. Searching graveyards for reminders of the past was a life long passion. It was once remarked that there wasn't a graveyard in Nova Scotia in which she hadn't set foot! She spent many years working on a Woodlock family history which she compiled in a book entitled "A Link To The Past". Edna was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by one son Wayne, wife Monica (Samson), granddaughter Sara, all of Valley, one brother James William Woodlock of New Annan and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Byron and two sisters, Bertha McNutt and Muriel Blair. Special thanks are extended to the staff of Sandi's Home for Seniors for their excellent care and providing such a kind and loving environment for Mom. Thanks as well to the Colchester VON for their care and daily visits. Visitation will be held 6:30pm to 8:30pm Thursday, October 7, and funeral service 2pm Friday, October 8, all in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro, Pastor Ken Fillmore officiating, with interment to follow in the Crossroads Cemetery Valley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edna's memory to the Alzheimer's Society, the Colchester S.P.C.A. or charity of choice.
