Notes

  • Obituary: MINGO (Nelson), Marlene Rose - March 26, 1932-April 8, 2008, Brookfield, Colchester Co. It is with great sorrow our family announces the sudden and peaceful passing of Marlene, with her immediate family by her side. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and dear friend to many. Marlene will be lovingly missed by her husband of 57 years, Stewart; daughters, Deborah and Pamela; son, Deryk; daughter-in-law, Louanne, and by her loving grandsons, Shawn Throp, Kyle Mingo, Jack MacIsaac and Chais Mingo. Marlene is survived by her brothers, Vern (Beth), Maurice (Elaine), Phillip (Sandy), and sisters, Shirley Burke, Margaret Haight, Beverly (Johnny) Hutchinson; sisters-in-law, Catherine Nelson, Barb Nelson, Betty Mingo; brothers-in-law, Leon (Betty) Mingo, Gary (Sadie) Mingo, Harold Mingo; many nieces and nephews. At a very young age, Marlene was predeceased by her mother, Florence (Bruce) Nelson, and later by her beloved dad, Harlan Nelson, and stepmother, Verna (Currie) Nelson; brothers, Bruce and Eric; sister, Mary, and sisters-in-law, Joyce Nelson and Pat Mingo; niece Laurie Jane Nelson, and nephew, Vernie Mingo. Her life was full with Stu by her side, over the years, they lived in Ontario, France, Germany, California, Florida and Quebec. Her home was always open to guests and full of music, dancing in kitchens, great conversations on politics and the Blue Jays games. A great joy to Marlene was attending the Truro Exhibition and Musquodoboit fairs with her father, Harlan, and later, with her brother, Maurice. Many wonderful summers were spent at the family cottage at Shortt's Lake. Marlene was the truest of matriarchs. Her family came first as all her family can attest, travelling many miles to attend weddings, graduations and many ceremonies for her nieces, nephews and family members. Marlene will always be remembered and carried in our hearts. We will miss her greatly. The burial will be held in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Then a gathering for family and friends at the the family cottage at Shortt's Lake for a celebration of Marlene's life to be held August 23. A further announcement will be made at a later date. Notes of sympathy and remembrance can be sent to: The Mingo Family, 40 Bond St., Oakville, ON L6K 1L7.
