  • Obituary: Our wonderful husband, father and grandfather, passed away in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, on Friday, August 29, 2008, at the age of 89. Born in Truro on May 15, 1919, Vic was the youngest son of the late Graham and Martha (Nettie Densmore) Burrows. His childhood years were spent in Truro and Pleasant Valley before moving to Brookfield following his father's death. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, the former Geraldine "Jerry" Dickey, Middle Stewiacke; daughter, Joan, and son-in-law, Terry Fisher, Cole Harbour; son, Graham, and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth, Truro, and daughter, Connie, and son-in-law, Bruce Monk, Port Williams. He also leaves a legacy in his grandchildren, Meaghan, Hong Kong, and Jenanne Fisher, Toronto; Adam, Calgary, and Morgan Burrows, Halifax, and AJ and Gina Monk, Halifax. Vic is also survived by nieces, Barbara Locke, Marilyn Watson and Myrna Clarke, and nephew, Art Burrows. Vic was a great believer in the strength of family and community and took great interest in both. His grandchildren and their successes were a great source of pride and they all enjoyed his constant teasing and wonderful sense of humour. As an Elk man, Vic was also very proud of Brookfield and its residents and appreciated the hard work of the people who planned all the community activities he attended. He was a member of the Brookfield Men's Club, Brookfield Good Times Senior's Club and Knox United Church, Brookfield. He served in the Canadian Air Force from 1941-45 and after the war he began his career with the Canadian National Railway, where he worked as a locomotive engineer, retiring in 1981. Vic was predeceased by his parents and his first born child, Harold Douglas, in infancy. He was also predeceased by brothers, Wilf, Art, Jim, Gerald, and sister, Ora. Visitation will take place from 6-9 p.m. Monday, September 1, in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, in Knox United Church, Brookfield, Rev. Larry Harrison officiating, with burial in Brookfield Westside Cemetery. Family flowers only.
